Govenor of Oro province, Papua New Guinea speaking to students in PNG and on radio about the decolonisation and independence of their brothers and sisters in West papua.
Words by Gary Juffa:
Speaking West Papua to Political Students at UPNG last night I was impressed with the turnout and interest…student movements in developing nations set the pace for forging nationhood…students of today are encouraged to focus on their studies..I believe otherwise…to do so is selfishness at its best…students are leaders too…their clans and people need them too…they have to fill in the leadership gaps and be the check and balance for elected officials many of whom are NOT leaders and have become instead followers…
It is not only that PNG suffers significantly from illiteracy but also a large portion of our population still have colonized mindsets…the effort therefore to free our minds from the shackles of colonialism and open up to self belief and self determination must be undertaken first if we are to be truly “indepenedent”…only then can we construct and own our economy and our future…
